I'm still speechless. It's an honor I dreamt of deserving in another 15 or 20 years. I feel like I should post something profound, or at least witty, and I'm not managing either one. And it's illustrious company to live up to. Wow.

Very well deserved! I have known you for 17 years, and you've been working your butt off for longer than that. Vivat for the crown recognizing your value!

You represent what the East and the SCA should be. Isn't that what being the Tyger is all about?

More congratulations!

Are you given/allowed special regalia, aside from the joy of the populace around your shoulders?

Thanks!
Harold von Auerbach was given a collar of estate with tyger plaques, but as far as I know that was a personal gift to him.

Julien de la Pointe has made "things" for several of the Tygers (Harold's collar; Ernst's ring; I think something for Randal) - in each case I believe they were gifts from the Crown and/or from the recipeint's family/friends.

I hadn't known about the other Tygers' gifts. (Julien makes such extraordinary stuff!) But the award itself doesn't come with any automatic regalia, either a hereditary item to be used til the next award, or a traditional standard item such as a pendant, brooch, or cloak.

It occurred to me that if I did haul my carcass to Coronation that you would know for sure that something was up. :-)

There is that. If you had been there, that would've clued me that something was afoot. As it was, somehow Justin deciding he wanted to take the pictures during court, which I usually do, and the fact that he didn't object to my bringing the scroll case for another purpose, totally failed to spoil the surprise.

I hear all of Crafty knew about it in advance.

I've been gaffiated so long that I fear this honor was created after my time. Reading between the lines as to what it must mean, I'm in complete agreement that you are deserving of the recognition...and then some.

It's not very old, but the company she's keeping is inspiring.

"Tyger of the East is given to those who most embody and personify the ideals of the East Kingdom. No more than one person may be so recognized during a reign; a person may receive this honor only once. Established April 26, A.S. XXXVII by Darius II and Roxane II."

It's essentially Lion of Atenveldt. Except the East.

Ernie made the comment at dinner last night that the work you do is, quiet, steady, essential and decades long.

I agree. Congrats!

And, of course, Lion of Atenveldt was created just before my last visit there as ambassador to the East, so I still think of that as the "new" award.

How timing colors perceptions, eh?

I think they have to live up to you. And I'm serious about that - knowing all of them, loving most, deeply respecting the rest.

You know my description of the three bestowed Peerages: "Those that do what we do, well", "Those that make what we do possible", "Sports Heroes".

You are in the second category. But you are the Pelican's Pelican.

Really.

You do what you can, always, reliably, quietly. When there are problems, you fix them, cover them over, work to manage what you can. You have not EVER been a maker of problems.

You just get stuff done. For decades.

You are the Pelican's Pelican. This one, anyway.

I looked over the list of Tygers of the East. They're a fairly diverse lot - different interests and fields of service. They all have one thing in common, though. They represent the best of us. You'll fit right in, as you also represent the best of us. Heartfelt congratulations, Caitlin. Richly deserved.

A deserved honor, and my only regret is not being able to get down to see it received in person. Many of us have been biting our tongues around you for some time now, and I was pleased to see that you were appropriately surprised by the honor.
