I just refused a request from a person whose name I totally do not recognize (does not appear anywhere in my Precedence files), who was trying to join all nine polling lists for the East. Including the Chivalry and the Rose! Bub, if you live in this kingdom and claim to be a member of either the Chivalry or the Rose, and especially if you are a member of both*, trust me if I say I don't recognize your name. Nervy, I have to give him that.

(The East has no male members of the Rose. Period. Yet, anyway.)

Long live Her Majesty Nicola, Queen by Right Of Arms! And His Majesty Fergus, King of Love And Beauty!

And then there will be a male Rose.

And then there will be a male Rose.
There is another kingdom that has had a Queen by Right of Arms. I've heard anecdotes of the former King of Love and Beauty being referred to as a "Laddie of the Rose".

Was his name Spammy McSpamster? There's this annoying tendency for spammers to actually go through the motions and join lists, lurk for a little while, and then start reaming it with spam...

And then there's this more recent tendency for list moderators to get more paranoid about lurkers on email lists, and force all newcomers into moderation until they've proved that they will post on-topic (I'm a "guest" moderator on several lists, because I'm online all the time and can deal with those posts...)

But attempting to subscribe to all the polling lists at once? I don't think so!

Heh, that is a bit of bravado, but the person in question probably has no clue.

For a moment, I thought you were joking that you were the one who tried to subscribe to all the lists...... then I realized you were referring to the 'anonymous' poster.

No, I am not crazy enough to want the additional mail. Besides my name would have been recognized... :)

Not worth it. On correspondence, he's just clueless. From his reply, "Sorry about that. I was unsure what the groups were for."

Oh.

Send him to my "Field Guide" web site? If he's enthusiastic but clueless, offer clues copiously. If he's a cad, nuclear strike. :-)

The Rose is a polling order??? I can't see that as anything except an opportunity for deadly insult. "We don't care if you were on the throne, we don't like you!"

Sure is. Of course, to not get it you would have to be a.... well, really bad. I don't think it's
ever been *not* given. Any Royal Peer with half a brain cell would realize the fallout would be not worth it at all. Of course....I can see Fergus not getting it if Nikki and Eleanor let him do what he wanted. :)

It has been denied in the East.

Our hostess in this part of LJ and I were corresponding on this offline. I cannot recall who it was, and have no time at work to look it up. (Rather, I might have time at work for personal stuff, but it's spoken for already. LOL)

She and I discussed Arastorm the Golden, but she was not rebuffed. Rather, she refused it, being the Queen who created the Order of the Rose in the East.

I recall that someone failed to get it as Countess, and got it as Duchess later. Damned if I am recalling who - so, maybe, it's a brain fart. Someone ought to look that up. :-)

I am looking.. Nothing yet. Perhaps this is SCAdian false lore? Like the Fencer/Archer/Fighter getting attacked in the subway yet no one knows them and depending on who tells it the guy was hospitalized/killed/put in prison.....

Maybe I'm wrong.

Is that like the story about the fighter practice in Dorchester - which I think I recall had the line "How do you feel about Kikes, then", or something like that?

Baron Steffan was there... for that one.

(There was Sir Koppel in Trimaris, I believe, who was attacked and hospitalized. Maybe that's the story you mean...)

My point was that there are many things in the SCA talked about so much that they become "true" when they in fact, never happened.

OK, OK, I looked. Something weird is going on here.

If you compare the lists of Coronations with the list of Roses, the only person who doesn't have a Rose is Arastorm.

But.....

The list of Roses says that Fatima (of Murad and Fatima) received hers before she even stepped down.... and her list of individual awards lists only "Countess", no other awards, and no mention of anything else.

Lists of records are spotty from that era, so I can't tell you if she has it or not, or if she awarded it to herself or not.

Arastorm did not "create the Order of the Rose in the East." The Board in its Infinite Wisdom created the Order of the Rose for the whole of the SCA. There was some sort of membership fu during AElfwine and Arastorm's reign which resulted in their not officially "completing" their reign, which is probably why the records don't reflect that she ever received the Order of the Rose. Fatima certainly did, but that was all but prehistoric -- hardly anybody but Alfgar kept records then.
