Mortgage

We have a mortgage! The broker just phoned. They will mail the commitment letter today, and we shall have permission to pay many dollars over many years for a lovely new place!

yay. does this mean it is all a done deal and stuff?

Two weeks from yesterday we will all meet and sign papers and exchange checks for keys. That's called the "Real Estate Closing." That's when it's really final.

Pardon my curiosity, please:

Does that mean that the seller accepted your lowered offer after the inspection, or did you cave a bit and go up a little?

Does this current plan depend on you selling the Waltham house, or do you go through with the closing regardless?

The sellers accepted our lower offer after inspection, but requested a change to an earlier closing, which we were willing to accommodate. (Negotiate, negotiate, thank God we had a good agent and a good attorney in the process for us.)

We go through with the closing regardless but still try to unload the Waltham house as rapidly as possible. Our mortgage firm was willing to accept proof of listing-for-sale in lieu of proof of signed P&S.

We're going to have movers carry the big/heavy/bulky furniture, but we will start moving things that fit in my car as soon as we can. Anybody at loose ends Thanksgiving weekend should call :) but we are, thank heaven, not constrained to the pizza-for-labor method exclusively.

Woo! Congrats!

It's not over until the moving company is paid. :-)

Congratulations!

Thanks. It's not really all over til we find a suckerbuyer for our Waltham place.

Woot!

Yay mortgage!

[identity profile] goldenstag.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on your new state of indebtedness! It's a bit heady, actually. (Don't recall if you own your current place or not ...)

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
We do (own our current place), and have been dying to move for several years. The new house has a lot more living area, but a lot less storage space. However, some of that storage is in a converted garage, so we can back right up and load the camping event stuff in or out. It's still in our native barony, though we'll be in a canton now.

Congratulations!

[identity profile] cvirtue.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats on the house! I'm sure you are both relieved and daunted.

The canton is gradually becoming lots of fun. Every second Sunday we have project day (seminar on something) plus a potluck. This month it's a woodworking project, next month it's storytelling by Kali and others. We also have an email list if you want to subscribe: scatowers@yahoogroups.com

OK, cool. I've joined the Towers list. Probably won't be at project day this month, in the interest of packing more bins....

[personal profile] hungrytiger 2005-11-08 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Woo-Hoo!!!

Where is the new place? Any pictures you can share?

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
151 Mill St., Burlington. It's in the Fox Hill elementary school district, quite close to the Wilmington line. (Simple directions: 128 to Winn St., to Mill St.) I don't have the MLS number to hand, alas.

[identity profile] fairdice.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations!

(...That puts you, what, ten minutes from China Pearl's Woburn location? We just had dim sum there last Sunday.)

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Approximately. It's 4.5 miles to my office, which is just around the corner from China Pearl.

We are available for dim sum many weekends, especially Saturdays....

If you have MLS access, #70268476

[personal profile] hungrytiger 2005-11-08 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmph... the MLS access I have through our realtor seems to be filtered to only include cities/prices that we were looking at, back when we were looking and it doesn't let me plug in your number. Oh well, I'll just have to wait a bit.

It's very exciting to have you two coming so close to us. Yay!

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Not surprising. I had to get Susana to pull that Reading listing you sent us, because our filter was originally Waltham/Newton area.

Woo hoo! Congrats!

Yay! Congrats! Woohoo! Etc.!

Congratulations! I hope the new house is everything you hope of it.
