I'm suspecting J.Jill of enchanting their jeans. Last night I went in to try on jeans, having spotted a pair in their catalog that looked interesting, but being reluctant to mail-order them without trying them on.
Tried on the 16s, my normal size. Way too big. Asked the attendant for 14s. (!!!) She pointed out that the low-rise boot cut style was supposed to be a bit tight, and they stretch. OK, so bring me 14s and 12s, then. What the heck, nobody here to laugh when the 12s don't go over my rear. So I pulled them on, and they fasten. What the heck? Weird, but nifty. Bought the 12s. I don't remember the last time I had 12s that fit, in my closet. Sure, the scale still says about as high a number as it ever did, but I'll just sit here and gloat. And probably wear the 12s to a party some time soon. Go me!

J. Jill. The store we were standing outside of, gossiping, last night.

Is this in a particular mall or something? I'd love some pants that make me feel svelte!

(Damn LJ for not letting you edit comments!)

The one I was in last night is in the Burlington Mall. They also have stores in the Chestnut Hill Mall, North Shore Mall, and the Natick Mall. http://www.jjill.com/

[livejournal.com profile] jdcouer is putting on armor and wielding rattan, and now you are wearing size 12 jeans! Happy days are here again. We are all getting younger.

Yeah. I would be curious to know if they've simply moved the whole range up one to two sizes, or if they've just changed the fit for certain sizes. Hmmmm.... have to ask somebody at the other end of the charts....

It happened in the late 60s, hence the whole "Marilyn Monroe wore a size 12" thing. There's not really a lot of size standardization for women's clothes, unlike for men's. So it could have changed again with this manufacturer, or the industry, or maybe J's simply a bit more muscular which takes up less room.

And then there's vanity sizing. My mom once got me a nice pair of slacks, and I noticed the size, and told her she'd gotten them too small. She assured me that with what she paid for them, that size should fit me fie, and sure enough...

Not as low down on the charts as I used to be...but I'm still a size 10 at J. Jill as well as other places that I know are less forgiving like Liz Claibourne.
