Oh yes. A very crafty choice by the Reps. By announcing it when they did, and by staging their own convention so close to the Dems, they've stolen a lot of attention and press time, and are hoping to curb the Convention Bump. Their choice of VP was also inspired - young, to offset the age image (although Biden's no spring chicken), female to steal some of the diehard Hillary camp and a woman-at-any-cost camp, pro oil, pro life to help the hard right swallow the idea of a woman, as strong a profile for Family Values as you could ask for, with 5 kids, one autistic, one in the military, with a blue collar oil rig working husband, and a legacy of cutting spending and setting sail in her own direction, to subtly deflate the mantra of Change from the other side.
Both VP choices this time around were very savvy, and even more political than I've seen before. It's warming up to be one hell of a fight. Time to go make some more popcorn!
