I don't think anyone is that stupid. By which I mean:
1. I don't think that women blindly vote for women without any forethought. No matter what. Women THINK.
2. I don't think that anyone realistically thinks that women vote for women, axiomatically. Well, maybe a few dumb clucks.
3. One has to ask themselves: what did the McCain campaign truly need? It needed a younger and more conservative Veep, with sterling credentials in order to win back the New Righteous and Neo-Cons. Because the campaign needs money and support. A lot of it.
I think that, once again, his choice shows the sort of poor judgment that McCain is chronically displaying. She cannot and won't be a modern-style Vice President, a co-regnant with junior powers. She has to be a more "bucket of warm spit" style VP. She'll try to reassure the fading far right, while he's off trying to capture the middle. She's an accessory for campaigning, not a choice for eventual victory.
I haven't thought a lot, nor read a lot. But on first impression, it isn't her sexual characteristics that matter most - although they won't hurt. No one is really underestimating women here.
(I think they are seriously underestimating the American people, and the damage she can do to McCain's campaign. And her own ongoing Trooper-Gate issues with her former brother-in-law are going to be a REAL problem. Bad vetting and stupid choices.)
I thought I had just read that the investigation concluded that a staff member had made the call to fire the guy, and that she supposedly knew nothing of it until it blew up. I can't find that citation, though.

I disagree. I believe a lot of women don't think. Just like a lot of men don't think.
What I am concerned about is that there may be pro-Hilary people out there who got so attracted to Hilary that they really might switch to another woman without realizing that this new woman's positions are 180 degrees in opposition. I hope this is unlikely, but I don't have a lot of faith in the electorate.
My second concern is wondering how much of the "Hilary supporters for McCain" are loud people who have actually been for McCain all along, and are using the coverage in a subtle way to undermine the Democrats.
