After dinner, we went for a stroll around the new Nordstrom's, which opened today. Their shoes are trendy, but reasonably competitively priced (I looked at a couple of pairs, all in the $50-75 range, which is what Macy's would charge). But the clothes! Sooooo self-consciously fashionable, some to the point of unwearable, and all way out of my budget. I'm thinking they are just behind the times: we are in a recession now, and the market for $895 suit jackets is just not what it used to be. If they don't get themselves some fashionistas from Winchester or Wellesley the store is doomed. I'll be heading back to Macy's after all.

I may give their bra fitters a try, since I'm terribly hard to fit. (As far as I can tell, the perfect size for me is 40 A 1/2.) Plus, they have real shoe salesmen - the kind who know how to help you find shoes, not just wave you toward the Payless racks.
