Alethea was describing it, and I said, "Where is that? I gotta get it for lumineaux?

;)

Then I found it here and see you did it for her.

;)

I love friends who are quicker than I am.

That's cool! I got most of them, even though I do not know Old English. :)

Years as a semi-pro caroler, for victory! I was able to get most of them based on what miniscule pronunciation training I've had, and a store of carol knowledge. I think it would be more fun still if you actually know the A-S. And some of the words (geboren, e.g.) are still used in the traditional german versions of the carols.

Are these really that hard? I've never studied Old English (though I'll cop to some related languages, and general scholarly dorkiness), and the only one I couldn't recognize on sight turns out to be one I don't even know in modern English. (1.7)

If you have a good carol repertoire, not really. Although doing it by carol knowledge and process of elimination is probably missing the point of the original exercise.

I nearly peed my pants at "Frosty the Snowman" in Anglo-Saxon, though.
