Vanity

Leetle bitty steps. A month ago I sent in paperwork and payment for a vanity license plate "PELICN".* I haven't heard anything - I'd expected to get an acceptance note from the RMV by now - so I just went and checked. PELICN is not available. Assuming nobody else applied for the same plate in the last four weeks, it looks like it's been assigned to me and I just have to wait for the plates to be manufactured.

*It's PELICN not PELICAN because there's a 6-character limit in Mass.

Good for you! I've toyed with the idea, but I'm really attached to my license plate. I got it when I bought my first car, I managed to keep it despite moving to NY for a year, and I just can't let go.

But I'm with you in spirit.

Cute! :) I knew someone in the Outlands who was 'DADUKE'.

You'll want to seek out Master Nikolai and park next to him... he has a similar (but Maine-based) plate :)

BRNES was taken?

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I am in a position where my original plate, issued 1985 when I was still in grad school, is so faded I could be ticketed for obscured plate. So I was going to have to give in and either order a new random number plate, or pick one.

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
BRNESS is not taken, though alas for you, BARON is. :)

[identity profile] goldsquare.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I had long debated using my SCA name - now, it is just as well that I don't. (Remember back when Taran had that on his car?)

GLDSQR is probably available. But I can do without that, too. I wonder if ANADAD is available? I could look, but since I won't do anything about it: waste of time.

I envision an "sca vanity plates" parking area at some event, and a little tour leaving from the list field on the hour....

Mine is "Hennin".

I love it...

COOL!!! I've thought about vanity plates, but haven't really thought of anything I want to be burdened with forever.

Random thoughts:

Best Vanity plate from Pennsic "GULES" seen on a Red Honda.

California offers seven letters. Their DMV was confused why the first day there were ten requests for "NCC 1701". Quote "Why would someone want that?"

After a suggestion from me, a friend in Minnesota is applying for FEATURE plates.

For her bug.

;)

Hehehe.

I've heard a first-hand report that there's one in New Jersey, too.

Goldsquare said he saw one on a convertible bug in Massachusetts.

GOSOX is likely gone.

You could have STLIAM.

Does anyone except you, me and metasomething even remember Taran?

[identity profile] cvirtue.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I remember him, and Lark. Met them when I was in college, and eventually I lived down the street from them for a year or two in the late 80s.

You are very kind.

(I think that's what you say at times like this, yes? LOL)

[identity profile] goldsquare.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
His funeral was held in Hawai'i by his parents. But his memorial service here in town was packed to the rafters, and out the door.

[identity profile] goldsquare.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I did. Convertible.

Ohsusanah would tell you this is an appropriate time to say, "How nice."

FALCON would work, so would TRIBE, PURPLE, JANGUS, FYRD, or IRFYRD -- read it like a LolCat. ;)

CRUSCIN?

[identity profile] liamstliam.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Do all ya'all Easterners know that since there is a Calontiri who is a lobbyist, there are specialty "Calontir" plates in Missouri? A lot of folks get them *and* put vanity letters on them.

;)

[identity profile] goldsquare.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"How verah nice."

If you like lolcat, check out Ecclesiastes in the Lolcat Bible....

...I just have to wait for the plates to be manufactured.

By actual prisoners, even!

(Apparently FRET is available — no longer of interest to me, but someone should take it!)

[identity profile] liamstliam.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I have read parts of Genesis and Leviticus there.

[identity profile] calygrey.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Umm, yeah, we original Silverwings go waaaay back.

[identity profile] msmemory.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course I do. When I was new to the SCA, he and Lark were very kind to me, and he encouraged me to learn book heraldry. (Later in his life, he had problems, but that's water under the bridge now.) I have his Papworth's, not that we check conflict in that any more.

[identity profile] lumineaux.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
This is actually good to hear. Too often lately, I've been telling SCA stories and having the people around me say "who?" when I mention someone.

Catching up...

RI has long used an XX-999 format, but recently they've switched to a 799-999 format: 6 digits, always starting with a 7. I like my plate (XN-913) and Beth is very attached to her WB-466 (which she's had forever). We're afraid that when we renew, we'll get switched. We're thinking of applying for vanity plates, and then requesting XN-913 and WB-466. The alternate is to get a "real" vanity number: I'm considering AG-WING (on an old suggestion by Johannes von Narrenstein). Beth hasn't decided, since HOBBIT and HOBBITT are apparently taken...

Hey, I certainly remember Taran, the founding Steward of House Silverwing. We had our differences, to be sure, but I'll always be inspired by his adamantine constancy. The man stood by his beliefs.
