Vacation starts early

We had wonderful tickets to this afternoon's Sox game, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hungrytiger who couldn't use them. Standing room, on the Green Monster. A straight shot from up behind Coco Crisssssp toward Home Plate. Standing through the game didn't bother me, but walking 2/3 of the way around the park to the one place they sell good beer did. PITA.

And we get to sneer superiorly at the silly fools who bailed on the game in the 7th or 8th inning, with the Sox trailing 5-0, since we came back with a lovely rally and won with a walk-off ground ball on a Casey-at-the-Bat count!

After the game we decided to walk back to the Red Line, figuring we'd get dinner on the way. Which we did, but also got distracted by a nice used book store in Kenmore Square which we'd never noticed before. Altogether a perfectly wonderful vacation day, out in the sunshine.

I was planting a daylily bed at Melville Keep this afternoon, and finished in time to come in and watch starting somewhere in the bottom of the eighth--and about all I could say by the end was, well, Jane and Mark certainly got their money's worth on those tickets! Nothin' like a comeback, is there? Hope the rest of your vacation is equally sparkling.

Which bookstore, the one in the frontage of the new hotel?

Commonwealth Books, one of those little Boston basement places. Scholarly used with a nice case of Antiquarian that were well out of our price range, and one generous bay at the back with the fiction/sf.

Like a said, lousy bullpen. I didn't realize the manager was so poor - what was he thinking? It was the second worst decision I've seen this year (the worst was Toronto pulling Halliday when he was cruising: that was in a close game).

Glad you had a good time and even more glad that you did stay all the way to the end.
