Things they don't tell you in Executor school -- it's a kindness to the doctors, hairdressers, etc., to cancel the appointments of the deceased. But it's still kind of awkward to do.
Oh wow. I probably would not have thought of that.
Things they don't necessarily teach the living: it is a kindness to your executor to actually keep a calendar instead of just, say, putting the reminder cards from your doctor in your wallet or on the fridge or wherever's handy.
Yep. I have her calendar, which made calling Dr. Robbins (opthalmologist) and Dr. Blair (podiatrist) quite easy. Unfortunately, her hairdresser is in the calendar as "Hair 10:30" so I'm going to have to do some sleuthing to find out where she's been going every 2 weeks on Friday mornings.
I discovered something of this recently when a friend died; I contacted the livejournal people to find out what happens with her account. I couldn't do anything, but I got the instructions to send to her family. cnewsonsmith found out the details for her website and likewise passed them on to the person who can actually do something about it.
Lucky, I guess, that Duncan can access my Yahoo calendar, where there are phone numbers as well as dates and names.
Thanks for this reminder. Hugs.
I assume you've contacted the credit cards? nitnorth found out some useful info about debts, etc., when his ex-wife died. Some stuff about how many cards will cancel accumulating interest, but you need a death certificate, etc.
I'm very sorry to hear about your mother. I can't imagine what that would be like. I'd have commented sooner, but I didn't know. May I add you to my friends list? And thank you for your help this past weekend.
Thanks. Yes, of course you may add me to your friends list! And it was my pleasure to help out briefly with the list heraldry. I'm having fun learning a new skill.
