RIP Johan

Once upon a time there was a very gallant flirt named Johan. He could always be counted on to make a polite pass at me, and always to take no for an answer.

My only real Johan story is from Pennsic 15. This was just at the point where the land situation was turning from "oh, just show up, there'll be somewhere for you," to "make plans in advance to have space saved by a group." We hadn't made any such plans. So we showed up, and we couldn't find any place for our modest sized group (we were expecting a cluster of about 6 tents). Having survived just my second drive to Pennsic, I did the only sensible thing, and sat in the car crying while jducoeur set out to look for someone who could take us in. Johan found me, gave me a hug and a Kleenex, and also set out to find us camping space. Which he persuaded the (also noble and gallant) Prince Sebastian to carve out of his royal allotment.

The last time I saw Johan I'm not sure he recognized me, but I remember him fondly.

I haven't seen Johan for probably 20 years, but he figured heavily in my early SCA career.

He will be missed.

I haven't seen him in a couple of years. I hope that Arianna and the kids are okay. Damn shame. My heart goes out to them.
