Slooooowly. We took a second look at one possible last night - and the working conclusion is, it's still a "possible" but we are not in loooooove with it. We'd need to redo the kitchen to take over the former dining room, because we want a big kitchen. And we'd have to retrofit air conditioning into the house. Although at that price, we could afford to do both - if we were so inclined.
Another second look visit to another place tomorrow after work. It's at, or perhaps past, the top of our range, but does not apparently need any work.
Thats a big trade off. We bought our condo knowing that we needed to do a great deal of work ourselves. So far we have...
Put in a hardwood floor in the LR/DR. Tiled the Kitchen and front hall. Ripped up carpet and refinished the stair treads. Gutted two out of the three bathrooms. Painted every room in the house and re did most of the molding. Re carpeted the second floor. Gutted and re designed the upstairs closets. Had new windows and a sliding glass door installed.
Is it a lot of work? Yes, but we got the place really cheap and made it what we wanted it to be. The last and hardest thing will be the basement, which is dark and chilly, but has great potential. :o)
