Roslin's glasses

I'm a BSG geek. (cue chorus: "We knew that!") I've been speculating that glasses like President Laura Roslin's might look good on me. But I haven't seen ones exactly like those in stores. Wonder if they're fancy designer ones or what....

I found a few that are close: here's one, or, if you don't mind what are nominally men's frames, this or this might work.

LensCrafters (if you can stand [livejournal.com profile] cvirtue's teasing :) ) seems to let you upload your photo and try frames from their online catalogue on your face.

Since she and I don't share a checking account, I have no rational basis to tease her. ;)

No reason not to use their tool and go elsewhere, though, if it works well.

I'll admit to having gotten my current glasses at LensCrafters. If you catch their sales, you can get away with not paying too much. My current sunglasses are a bit over two years old. This Pennsic, they ended up getting dropped onto the floor of the dance tent and danced on. The lenses weren't damaged, but the frames were bent to the point of unusability, and one of the lenses was popped out. I took them in to a LensCrafters out there, and they fixed them up as good as new (including tapping out and replacing a hinge), while I waited, for no charge.

My current pair is from LensCrafters too. (AAA discount!) I've been happier with their service than Pearle or Sears.

When I was shopping for my current glasses, I checked Pearle, and I really liked some of the frame styles they had. Their pricing was astronomical, though, and both pair (regular and sun) from LensCrafters cost rather less than either would have at Pearle.

That's good to know. My optometrist's folks will do fixes, too; never had anything that extensive.

The lenscrafters advantage is the "one hour" thing, and that's what most of the high price goes to. However, my lenses, (and Metageek's) are so extreme that they never could get turn them around that fast, usually several days, so that advantage is lost.
