Books

Finished: The Hallowed Hunt, by Lois McMaster Bujold. Second half much more engrossing than the first - setup took too long.

Not finished, probably not going to: Finders Keepers, by Linnea Sinclair. From the cover art, I expected another Woman Renegade Space Marine (she looks like a cross between Starbuck and Tasha Yar), but as soon as she lays eyes on a Maaaan she gets all mushy and hormonal. Yeesh. And I'm sure I can guess than his shadowy background means he will turn out to be the scion of the Big Bad, but have a heart of gold and sweep her off her feet. I don't mind space rangers with sex lives, but this is Series Romance with the names changed - she could just as easily be a long-haul trucker who finds our hero on the roadside in the Rocky Mountains. Yeesh again.

Bleh, I'll steer clear of Finders Keepers then. I read enough of those series romance novels when I was a kid to last me a lifetime. I'm working on The Curse of Chalion right now, have you read/did you like it? So far, I'm into it, but other priorities have kept me from picking it up for a few days.

I liked The Curse of Chalion, though as it happened I liked book 2 best: Paladin of Souls. No, they're not a series in the ordinary sense: each book has its own protagonist, but they share a world.

Series romance have their place. I still pick up Signet Regencies from time to time, but I have no need ever to read another plain Harlequin.

I dunno, I'm really chewing through romance novels lately. Did you know Anne McCaffrey used to write some? ;)

Let me know if you want to borrow/have any romances. They're a vice of mine as well - for when I want to pretend that the world is happy and sickly sweet :-) Very soothing, for some reason, but definitely brain candy. I've got a lot that I may not read again...

For that matter, I may have clothes, random camping supplies, etc...

I may take you up on that! I get my romance reading from my Mom, along with a tendency to take really long hot baths while reading them. It is definitely soothing. :)

I am fond of Stitch In Snow. What others have I missed?

The Lady is one of my personally favorite comfort books. Girls, horses, romance, social commentary...

That's what I'm reading right now! It's fascinating! :) I never much got into horse research as a girl, so this is quite an education as well as a slightly unexpected romance.
