5. Hour of the Gremlins, by Gordon Dickson (and Ben Bova)
Read it for work. This is sci-fi as I remember it from my youth. Rockets and aliens and very ingenious (male) heroes. Story number 1 evoked Stowaway To The Moon, and I never did shake the image of the hero in the third novella as being Oscar Gordon with the numbers filed off.
6. Deryni Tales, ed. Katherine Kurtz
A terrific collection of short stories set in the Deryni universe. Surprisingly, most of them would still make sense if this were your first encounter with Kurtz's world.
