Dear Ms. Coakley

Please get yourself a stylist. Just for the day. She'll tell you that it's easier to stand out in a crowd and look confident if you are wearing a bright jacket, instead of olive-drab pinstripes. We your public get that you r seerious politician, and no I don't think you need to do a Palin and spend thousands - just run down to Marshalls and get a $79 red blazer, or even a bright scarf, to wear to your headquarters party tonight. So we can pick you out on stage other than "the short one."

Susan Collins is a genius at this. I don't think she used a stylist though - I suspect she just looked at The Queen (Elizabeth II, that is) and does what she does.

She has an enormous wardrobe of little suits (mostly red, but she recently wore a "Bean Green" one to a Bean-related function) that she puts on and you can just see her.

I think it's a bit late for this. Someone really needed to take her aside a few weeks ago and mention that she might want to at least pretend that there was a chance she could lose the election, because voters like that sort of thing.
