Confusing the help

When the cashier perkily says "Did you find everything all right?" she gets remarkably confused when you say, "no." It really interrupts her routine.

No, I could not find Feminine Fit Turtlenecks (only Seamless Neck and Mock Neck).

You are so right.

A No is so off script. :-)

It's true...most customers don't even listen to the questions so an alternate answer is very much unexpected. Good Job Jane!

When I was the cashier, I always had to fight responding with "It wasn't my fault!" when I got a "no" to my store's equivalent.

I generally don't like help when I walk into a store, but clothing stores are the one exception - I prefer to go to the sort of place where you walk in, and you get a knowledgeable staff person who is your personal expert for the entire visit. Sadly, such stores are becoming harder and harder to find in Boston.

Vynehorn and I saw a book at the NEIBA trade show that gave a great response when they say "have a nice day": "Thank you, but I have made other arrangements."

One of the reasons I love Trader Joe's

Is that they have a helpful and effective answer if you say "No".
