Very miscellaneous

Got one nibble from one of my online resumes. It turns out to be a 3-month contract doing some corporate-ownership research for the State. I told the recruiter not to send my name in at this time, but promised her a fresh copy of my resume and she said she'd look out for some longer term, or temp-to-perm, positions.
I wish I were in a position to just say f-you to my employer and then kind of diddle about with some part time work (perhaps for my favorite editor) and work on home projects (cleaning, redecorating, sewing, inventory, hiring small-job contractors).
My car will be here soon. According to my new liaison at the dealership, it's on the ground and will be ready for me to test-drive RSN. I suggested that having it ready for me tomorrow evening would suit me very well (because we can't get the big check from the bank today, bank holiday).
Arisia was pleasant, though the con itself ran on inertia, not organization. I agree completely with
jducoeur, who said that it was like the formulaic annual SCA events like May Day, which run in spite of having dilatory autocrats. I managed not to buy any art or any clothes (go me!), just a dozen books.
Two books finished so far in '04. Not doing the Fifty Book Challenge, but decided to keep track anyway and see how far I get.
1) Paladin of Souls, Lois McMaster Bujold
2) The Second Coming, John Dalmas

Date: 2004-01-20 06:52 am (UTC)Back in tenth grade I had an English teacher who had us record all our books. During that year, and in my remaining high school years, I read over 400 books a year. That dropped in college, but was still over 200 a year. The "real" world dropped it, but only to about 150 a year for many years.
Now, for pure pleasure, I manage to read only six to ten per year, at a very rough guess. But I read or skim another fifty or so, and many of them I go through twice. So, where does that put me? Tired, I think.
BTW--how does it feel to be able to list a book that isn't out yet?
What news on the car front? We're looking forward to hearing of the completion of the Car Quest!

Date: 2004-01-20 10:18 am (UTC)I clearly think so. I turned in "Second Coming" yesterday. :)
I have one more half-finished book in my briefcase, waiting for my lunch hour. Then I get to re-address the ziggurat of new books, and decide which are next.
