Yes, thanks! Answers How and When and gives nice tips. Everything I need to know except whether keeping the bag of unplanted bulbs in the kitchen since October has been fatal. Guess I'll just have to try, and find out.
see, television has all the answers :) i wouldnt think it would be fatal to them, they are basiically designed to survive colder tempratures, as long as they didnt dry out entirely, they should be fine. (then again, i seem to remember that my parents stored them in the basement, in shallow pans of water, so i may be wrong)
My experience is that if you've had them out in the kitchen since October, they may or may not have stunted stalks. (I had one hyacinth bloom -in- the bulb, no stalk at all, which was a decidedly strange-looking sight. :)
I see you've gotten other advice, and it's no doubt better then mine, but alas, I stick them in a pot in the window when I want them to grow and bloom, and they do, and I toss them in a bag under the sink when I don't. Sometimes I don't have time to get around to them (often a year I've had a baby) and so they sit under there for a few years, sometimes I get them to go twice because I wasn't sure if I'd set them out in the spring and thought they'd look nice in the fall (usually Gregorian then reminds me we already bloomed them in the spring). So, the moral of my story is I think if they get any ammount of light and water they'll probably do their thing, and they seem wicked hearty when they're dormant.
It's easy enough to do, but what with needing to cool the bulbs, then force them, you're not going to get blooms until about 6 weeks from now, minimum.
I'll show you my results when we do the sushi-and-Firefly evening.
