Economic markers

I had to stop by the mall last night to return a pair of shoes (they shipped me light grey, when I wanted dark grey). I took a quick wander past a couple of my usual shops. In Chico's, the saleswoman greeted me politely, then, making small talk, asked me how I liked having the mall to myself. Which wasn't *quite* true but pret' damn near. I was one of two customers in their store. There were 3 or 4 others in Macy's mens' department, no others in Talbots.
You'd think, with customers so thin on the ground, that I'd have better luck finding the stuff I am looking for.

This weekend it seemed fairly busy, but I don't go to the mall often so perhaps it was less busy than it should have been. I certainly got a lot of help at the candle store, though -- had 3 salesgals all to myself.

I went to the mall with my mom a couple weekends ago and it was empty.

I was at the mall as well last night. It was empty and hungry salespeople fell on me...it was weird. Sale prices on many things looked more like after Christmas.

Only if they're *making* what you're looking for...

Nah, if they're not selling stuff, they're hurting, so they're keeping their inventories as lean as possible, which means they're stretching out the time between their restocking orders as long as they can get away with. Means availability of particular items may be spotty. That's basic Econ 101.
