I've been kinda bored with my two standard walking routes. I wanted some slightly-longer (and Different) routes to increase my level of effort and perk up my interest. Rummaging around today with Google Maps and trying to get it to cough up elapsed distance without manually adding point-to-point distances was frustrating, til I followed a link to http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/. Hah! Just what I needed. I've got two 1.8 mile variant routes to add to my standard repertoire. Once I get accustomed to those two, I'll add a few more tenths and a few different houses to look at :)

You should also check out mapmyrun.com - similar idea, and seems to be a little more fleshed out than gmap-pedometer.com

It's an awesome tool. I just noticed, while measuring one of my favorite routes (which is 3 miles rather than the 2.5 I'd always thought it was) that they've confused my road with the Future Electronics parking lot. Very funny.
