Other than the Social Networking panel, about which I intend more later.

3:30 panel, The Wonderful Wacky World of Wikipedia
The title was more clever than the panel - no witty and obscure pictures or entries (she pointed out the Inuit language section but I'm willing to bet there's one in Klingonese too). A thorough and clear presentation of Wikipedia, what it can do for you, about evaluating the data quality, how the editorial and moderation process works, how to become a contributor. Phoebe Ayers.

5-7 Information Futurists' Caucus Field Trip to the Science Fiction Museum
Dan Trefethen announced that since we had not been overwhelmed with the number of attendees, the Caucus would spring for the monorail tickets and the entry fees.
The monorail was out of service so we walked - no big deal but a waste of some time we could've spent in the collection. What a cool collection!! It is good to be a billionaire, and nice of the billionaire to show us his diverse collection. They have Kirk's chair (and uniform, and Spock's uniform, and a tricorder....) and ET, and the only original model of the DeathStar, and Charlton Heston's suit from PoA, and and and..... You'd have to be a geek/fan to love it, and I do. It's a smaller museum than I thought, but the collection is oh-so-select.
Two quibbles: some series were utterly absent (Dr. Who, both Battlestars Galactica) and others nearly so (B5, Stargate, Farscape). No doubt reflecting the affections of the owner. Second, that in most cases they credit the actor as well as the use of the prop/costume, but the knife of the Dohlman of Elaas only gave the role name, not the actor or episode. My editorial side cannot be suppressed.

I snagged a quick curry at the food court in the mall, dropped my tote bag at the hotel, then headed back out via monorail (working now) to the Lexis-Nexis Dessert Reception at the Experience Music Project, which is the other half of the building where the SF Museum is. Appletinis, chocolate desserts, and the free run of the museum. Toward the end of things I ran into [livejournal.com profile] peregrinning, with whom I had a nice visit and he escorted me back to the hotel.

Being somewhat foolhardy, instead of retiring for the night, I went to the Sci-Tech, Engineering & IT divisions open house, to hear Greg Bear and another panelist speak. There, I saw [livejournal.com profile] digitalemur, with whom I hope to get down to Pike Place Market today.

I want to know more about the Wikipedia panel. How does the evaluation process work?

Glad your enjoying your conference. I feel like I am enjoying it with you.

Please take pictures of Pike's Place market for me.
