I think I need to outsource about half my chores, so that I have a remote chance of getting sleep and Justin time and exercise fitted in.
I didn't goof off last night, really I didn't: I got the MOL paperwork together for Greg, ironed 4 shirts and 2 handkerchiefs, did 2 loads of laundry, made and ate dinner, printed the next 3 court reports I need to upload, cleaned out my tote bag and briefcase, set aside the little postcards for all the vendors I need to see next week, reviewed a friend's resume, put out Erica's cooler to dry, and watched about 2 innings of baseball.
I did not: iron the other 18 shirts in the laundry room, finish mending my blue dress, get to Marshall's for shorts for Justin, weed the garden, get to take a walk, pay bills, go to the bank, return Susan's call from last week, write an employment application cover letter.
Joan's leaning on me to go to a reception tomorrow, and is rather vexed that I'm going to miss all three of next week's because I'll be at the Special Libraries Association. Sigh. There are times I think I wasn't a good choice for her marshal, if I'm not going to make her priorities first ahead of my own.

Date: 2008-06-11 04:40 pm (UTC)Seriously, give yourself a break, eh? I think it's something of a disease women in our age group have - no matter how much we do, we never feel that it's enough because we never get to the bottom of the to-do list.
And think about getting someone in to help out with the household chores, too. A couple of hours a week for you to feel like you've actually gotten some rest is well worth it.

Date: 2008-06-11 04:48 pm (UTC)18 shirts - there are places (laundry/dry cleaners) that will do ironing without requiring that you have them do the cleaning as well. I have no idea what it costs.

Date: 2008-06-11 06:28 pm (UTC)I heard from Justin that June is absolutely berserk for you, so I figured I'd hear from you sometime in July. Don't let ME become part of your stress.
I second the vote about sending laundry out. Choose one or two things you want to pay someone to do - we get a "maid" in once a month because I don't want to dust or clean the bathroom. And we just had someone else steam-clean the carpets. Mark does the lawn care, but mostly because that's the only exercise he gets.
a little bit of your time given to Joan
Date: 2008-06-25 01:33 am (UTC)For what it's worth: At my house: Laundry is picked up and dropped off, dry cleaning also. Peapod delivers groceries. Housecleaner should be starting up in the next few weeks. Clothes are ordered from Land's End. Amazon delivers everything from the books my therapist recommends to glass mixing bowls to bread yeast. Etc., etc. Leaves more capacity for the things for which your unique and magical talents come into play 8-)
(And more smoochie time for kittens!!!)
Big hugs,
