Spent the bulk of the day staffing the Stars of Hope sales table. We have fundraiser merchandise and logo stuff for building our group identity. Sales were moderate. Hot items were the scarlet cummerbunds for gents, and the gown bags (seems whoever has the gown bag concession gets good revenue from them).

Thursday's banquet, the Grand Representatives' dinner, was much better than the Wednesday fiasco. It was a plated dinner, for starters, so no risk of running out of meals. Fruit cup, caesar salad, london broil with mashed potatoes, carrots, and green beans, and cheesecake with strawberry sauce. Yums. We had the same waitress as last night, a perky college student, and she says she'll be working the rest of the meals this weekend too.

Actual Grand Chapter stuff continues to be somewhat slipshod, running late, taking the agenda out of order. I had expected much better, even painstaking standards from Jan. Last night I came back to the hotel just before 10 pm, skipping out on a bunch of the distinguished guests' introductions. Heck with that. I pity the poor Supreme Nature and the Queen of the Nile, who were sitting on the platform from about 6:00, waiting to be presented, while Jan deferentially rescheduled the guests so the DDGM and the Mayor could be presented then leave. Jan had always seemed a "the trains will run on time, even if nobody loves me for it," type, but turns out to be at least as interested in sappy sentiment and accommodation as the next woman, at the expense of others' time. It's really amusing to listen to Joan as she makes her plans and tells me all the things she's going to do better. She's right, too. We'll pack the distinguished guests' gift bags in advance, not in somebody's hotel room. The charitable representatives will be invited to the Allstate to get their checks, instead of the Informal Session. Etc.

Okay, I know what the Queen of the Nile is, I think...an officer in a related sororal organization under the Masonic umbrella, yes? But who the heck is the Supreme Nature?
