Formation rehearsal
Saturday morning I got up ungodly early (pretty much any hour earlier than I normally get up for work is "ungodly early") and drove down to Brockton. Did you know that Brockton has both a Prospect Avenue and a Prospect Street, and they run parallel two blocks apart? Yeah, neither had I.
The purpose of being there was to handle a whole batch of administrative and rehearsal details so they wouldn't need to be dealt with at Grand Chapter. We started off with the pictures, in our installation gowns. Mine is mint green. Picture of me with Joan. Pictures of Joan and me separately. Picture of all the deputy grand matrons and marshals. Etc. But that means this year the photos won't have to be done in the backstage area during installation, hurrah, and we're blessed with an uncontested election for the newest officers, so we could get all the photos done including theirs, because we don't have to wait for the ballot to be cast.
Then rehearsal for grand installation. Practice bowing as a group: marshal bows, 1-2; group bows, 3-4; sit. Rehearsal of the sub-ceremonies of the Floral Star and the Confirmation of Deputies. (Ick, Andy and Micki had not worked it out together in advance, and she made changes to his plan right there during rehearsal, while we stood in formation getting hungrier.) Frequent pauses so the chairmen of the Hall Committee could make notes about musical interludes, follow spots, lighting colors, hand or lavalier mics.
Lots of announcements, distribution of the matching accessories (necklace/earrings) before the photos, chance to order matching polos with logos on them, sheet to sign up if we will participate in the MDA walk in June or the telethon in September, etc.
I'm looking forward to being part of the marshals' group. My rank as Joan's marshal puts me at the head of the line for just about every occasion, and right next to me will be Diane's marshal, Ruth W., who is very funny and upbeat.
I bugged out before the luncheon was served - turns out I probably ought to have stuck around to hear the calendar changes announced, but I'll pick those up by email from Joan.
