May Day & things

Nice little May Day yesterday. I am always disappointed when we have to hold it indoors, but it was much too cold & rainy to attempt the lawns. I was a smidge chilly even inside.

I was listmistress for the heavy list tournament. [livejournal.com profile] metasomething decided to use the Mists Coronet Palatine Barony of the Far West style of double-elim, which made me a little apprehensive going in because I didn't really know what he meant. Fortunately, Khioniya was able to explain in 30 seconds. It's double elim, but random draw, so you may face the same opponent more than once if chance falls that way. No tree, therefore, just cards, and when you get two Ls on your card, you're out. I liked it a lot - no stress from keeping a tree, and a very small list to start with. Let's use that format again!!

Was alarmed to discover that at least some people think the reason I'm resigning two of my local offices is for health reasons. Nope, health is excellent (for a 40-something woman). I'm resigning mostly because when I heard I was not going to be able to sleep in, then sit on the lawn and have a May Day picnic, but had to be listmistress and deal with Order of the Daystar business, I was cross. I shouldn't have offices that make me cross. Somebody else can do these tasks. And in due course some other offices or event staff positions or whatever will come along, ones that make me go OOOOH! instead of DOGGONE!

Guendalina was having a trim sale (she's getting out of the trim business), so I bought three lengths I really didn't need but they were on SALE, including 10 yards of the mock blackwork like I found at Britex a couple years ago. Maybe I'll finally replace the smock that goes with my Italian gown.

OES rehearsal afterwards. We have one totally new officer, and several others in new positions. Unfortunately, two of the latter were MIA. Still, I think Colleen got a lot out of it, and we discovered that Dan the sullen actually knows his work, and Alice the ambitious does not.

I had assumed the resignations were due to increasing OES responsibilities.

In part, yes, because the OES responsibilities are making my schedule feel more crowded and stressy. Plus I just need to plan more down time, for laundry or planting tomatoes, or reading a novel.

Ditto. I figured it was the OES responsibilities.

God forbid you might take some time to relax and smell the roses or some such...

I figured you got smart, and decided to have more fun. Plus, of course, there is the duty to the organization to never be irreplaceable.
