It's not my intent to gripe at or about [profile] lisagw, [personal profile] tpau, or Khioniya. I'm not a calligrapher or an illuminator, but I get that there are often space and design constraints. I've been involved with royal courts for three decades and I know that Stuff just happens. But I have to admit to some disappointment about this, as I worked hard to get this wording just right, and to say not only what I thought the King and Queen, and the whole kingdom, wanted to say, but what I wanted to say as well. Obviously, this particular gig was rather close to me.

In any case, here's the Director's Cut.

We, Andreas III, by right of arms King of the East and Gabriella by grace and favor Queen,
unto all persons subject and alien wheresoever dispersed who may read or hear these words,

GREETING

Providence hath favored Us with the sovereignty of this fairest garden of Creation, and We have
taken upon Ourselves the burden of that charge, to punish iniquity and dishonor with the flaming sword
of firm justice, and to foster all virtues and all goodness with a liberal hand, pouring out the bounty of Our Font of Honour
as milk and honey, that, the people observing what rewards come to the virtuous and the good, they may
be induced to great works to the eternal betterment of our realm.

We see this burden as no burden at all, but Our chiefest happiness, for gazing upon Our domain we see but little to punish and much to reward, the virtuous works of Our subjects shining as a treasure of gems without number. Yet, among all these effulgent jewels, the Royal countenance is drawn particularly and especially to Our most faithful servant, Mistress Caitlin Davies, upon whose boundless wisdom and indefatigable spirit of service the very Crowns we have been privileged to wear for so short a span of days have been supported for so long a span of reigns. Considering, then, what means we may have to show to her and to Our people the great esteem we have for so faithful and tireless an exemplar, seeing what great honours have been bestowed upon her by Our most grateful predecessors, and finding even these yet inadequate to convey her worth, we raise up from Our treasure its rarest jewel, in recognition and confirmation that Mistress Caitlin Davies is a Tyger of the East.

In everlasting witness whereof, we set Our signs manual at Northpass in Our Capital of Ostgardr this 12th day of April, being the Octave of St. Derferl-Gadarn, XLII.

Who should I ask if I can copy the sleeping herald-cat for an LJ Icon? I really need a new SCA icon, and I love it soooo much...
