Well, I didn't get any yard work done yesterday, but the taxes are finished. [livejournal.com profile] jducoeur "drove" the TurboTax program and I handed him pieces of paper from the folder. Our federal refund will more than cover what we owe to Mass. I'll put the returns in the mail at lunchtime, after photocopying them for posterity.

It seems like everyone I know always owes something to MAss. they have some kind of racket going I think! 8-)

Mass usually gives us a small refund, and the Feds a fairly large one.

Very few deductions, and typically no withholding on anything but your salary. So if you have *any* other income, you wind up owing taxes on it. (Whereas our deductions from the feds are colossal, mostly due to the mortgage...)

thats how they nailed me years on income I earned not in their state. that just isnt right. IMO. note also I NH resident. they should only be allowed to tax on income earned in that state

Yeah, well, cross-jurisdictional taxes are always the source of pain and controversy, but they're sadly fairly common...

If you use TurboTax, and you're expecting $$ back from Uncle Sugar its well worth the $$ to e-file.

Also, the e-file mark is the best time stamp you can get from the feds, since even if it doesn't get into the feds on time, that's the timestamp they use.

Sounds like our pattern.

[livejournal.com profile] chriso finds the documentation,
I enter it into TurboTax.

Fortunatly we get $ back from both the feds and california.
