No explanation needed

I had my bimonthly sit-down with my boss today, covering a bunch of matters (space allocation, training a clerk, etc.), and toward the end I brought up the Eastern Star office for next year. Bracing myself to explain the Masons, OES, and traveling schedule, I suddenly found I didn't have to. "Eastern Star. Yeah, I used to do that when I lived in Georgia, but haven't gone in years. DAR, too." "Oh. Well, then, I'm going to be the Deputy Grand Marshal to the Associate Grand Matron next year, so I'll need some single days off during the fall." "No problem. Make sure they get on the department calendar as far in advance as possible."

Hee hee! This reminds me of the various 'SCAdian' workplaces of yesteryear, where it was just acknowledged that work was going to halt for about 2 weeks in August every year.
