(no subject)

And so it begins, in its quiet little way. About a week ago I got my gown (virtually a uniform) for installation in May. Joan says it's ok to get it altered; I want to have the sleeves taken up so that they clear the crook of my elbow. Nominally they are short sleeves, but I'm so short-waisted they are elbow length on me. I'd like to have the body shortened too, but suspect there's too much beadwork for that to be feasible/affordable.

Sunday was the Association meeting, at Contentment Chapter. I went only to the general session to hear the candidates speak, and to be, well, evident, as an involved member. Didn't stay for the individual breakout sessions. Elections this year should be smooth and brief, as both Carol and Mike are running unopposed.

ETA: Over supper, PSI let me know that a volunteer, GMB, has been drafted to be Matron of my local chapter. Whew! I passed the word that I'm willing to take any other local office they need next year.

I just wanted to tell you that I love it when you post about your Eastern Star activities. My grandmother was one, and my grandfather was a Shriner until he died a few years ago (in his 80s). My mom was a Rainbow Girl. I was never involved but as a kid I loved to hear their stories and see how involved they were. Good luck in the coming year!

If you'd ever like to come to something in person, let me know & I'll see that you get a notice for one of our public (nonmembers welcome) functions.

I do plan on posting here pretty regularly about my adventures and activities as my year's appointment runs along (May to May, officially, but some things start now-ish).

I would like a notice too, please. You mentioned something about needing younger blood, and I believe i have the bone fides (great-grandmother?).

Notice: sure, you betcha.

Bona fides: it actually goes by the male line - you'd need a male relative who is/was a Mason. Great-grandfather would do.

This is an overview document which was posted by the Maryland state organization, but is just as true in Massachusetts, except for the link to the Maryland contact people.

Great grandfather and great uncle.

Thank you!

My X's grandmother was in Eastern Star. When she died I wanted to find a place where we could send back her pins and such. But her son decided to keep them I think. I don't know any more since I have not talked to any of the X's family members since the divorce.

But I think about her a lot since I got her bedroom in the divorce.

What are the requirements for Eastern Star? I always wondered.

We do sometimes see deceased members' pins and things on Ebay etc. That's a shame. I don't have a problem, personally, if the family has other Masonic ties and wants to hold onto ancestral regalia in hopes it might be used or cherished by a new generation. It is disappointing to see regalia sold, or melted down for precious metals, instead of returned to the local or state sponsoring chapter, though.

See the link I posted above in my response to [livejournal.com profile] rufinia for some info about requirements and the order.

When I became Worthy Advisor of my local Rainbow Girls chapter, I got my grandfather's Masonic gavel - a solid thing of heavy dark wood (mahogany? Teak? Ebony?), instead of the sweet little clear lucite gavels with-a-rose-embedded-in-one-end that were standard Rainbow-Girls issue. It was cool. When I rapped with *that*, people noticed.

Good luck. Have fun. Illegitimi non carborundum %^).
