Meeting was a raging success. OK, it was small - we were altogether missing four officers, and had a couple doubled up, but I remembered to call on everybody, we took care of all the pending business, and I only needed to be prompted on ritual wording once, for the closing. I took Matron's privilege and changed the opening song to one I like :)

The problem with raging success is that the thumb screws are out again to get me to be Matron (chair) for 08-09. If it were only the business meetings that wouldn't be much of an issue: I could do just what I did last night for ten months. But it's all the other crap that comes with being Matron: writing the notice text, calling on the sick, attending funerals, finding people to bring refreshments, lining up program/entertainment, mediating hurt feelings, sending cheery cards, planning Christmas gifts for shut-ins, fundraising/charity, holiday decorations, making sure the trash got taken out, and whatnot.

Seems to me that a goodly portion of that stuff ought to be delegated...

If it would not be, overall, a benefit to you - say "thank you, how lovely, but no".

Sounds like the Matron position needs a secretary or a wife. :-)

Don't do it! Don't do it!
No matter what, don't do it!
If they had a full line and a whole bunch of active members, they wouldn't be hocking you. It's a giant game of Fifty-two Pick-up, with you as the Pick-up-er.

How many terms in the Chair have you had already? You can say, "When everyone else has done that many, you may put me down for another." Then while they're doing the arithmatic, Run Away!
