Weekend

I need more weekends. Or longer ones. I'm thinking 4-day weekends, 3-day workweeks.

On Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] jducoeur and I went out to Amherst to see his mother. She has a beautiful cute apartment in a brand-new building less than two miles from the green and the campus. If I were she, I'd be walking or biking up to town several times a week; I hope that if she keeps up her gym workouts her stamina will increase so she can do that. With a little scrub-nurse assistance from me, J hung the curtain rod in her living room and assembled two more IKEA bookcases. We hit terrible traffic on the Pike going out there, so J handed me a map and said "find me the back way," which is something I love to do. We ended up taking 122 to 290 to 9W, which took us past Wholly Cannoli bakery and Rising Phoenix Games. (Another time, when we are not going to be visiting a diabetic, we'll stop and get cannoli.)

Sunday was the chore and errand day we desperately needed to restabilize after Pennsic. After I trimmed the two evergreens [what ARE those things?] and the holly in front of the house, I went off on a long loop of errands: [livejournal.com profile] goldsquare's new apartment to pick up a box of misc archival SCA stuff, [livejournal.com profile] elizabear's house to drop off the sound equipment that [livejournal.com profile] n2mlq had loaned to [livejournal.com profile] alphaggek for Pennsic, the post office, the gas station, Costco, Frugal Fannie's for shoes, and the supermarket. Whew!

I did! I haven't totally given up on looking for another pair, but yes, I got shoes that should coordinate with my dress and which don't have spiky heels for sinking into the lawn.

You know, one of my coworkers actually arranges her work schedule so that she uses every Friday as a vacation day, and that way she always has at least a 3-day weekend. :)

As someone who has been doing it for 5 years now (albeit for a different reason), I can attest that 3 day work weeks rock.

Sometimes, when I talk to other people at work, they think it is pretty cool too. Then I remind them that I only get 60% of the pay because I am there 60% of the time. Then they reconsider. :-D

A few years back, when our company was going through tight times, I offered to work 80% time for 80% pay, but they didn't take me up on it. I would still do it now, if they offered. I'd schedule all our repairmen and doctors' visits and suchlike for the odd day - I'd love that!

One summer my company cut operations staff back to 4 days each. No one fought me for Fridays off, so I went to many camping events. I'd take that schedule again in a heartbeat.

Heyyyy...I thought Frugal Fannie's went away forever. I love their shoe department - where is it now?!

Fannie's

They closed the satellite stores (Framingham, Reading) and pulled back to just the original Westwood store, off Route 1 South behind the McDonalds. I hit the shoe jackpot on Sunday - wine-colored flats, a pair of Mary Janes with little Louis heels for work, and matte black fabric formal sandals. I'll probably go back in a couple of weeks, too.
