(no subject)

I did it: I came out as a short-haired person at work today. I am still not used to being told I look cute however - I've never been the kind of girl people praised as cute (smart, or tall, or something, sure, but never cute).

I have always hated "cute". Sexy or attractive is fine, but "cute" just smacks of ribbons and lace.
I look forward to pics. I bet it looks *fantastic*.

I think maybe people use "cute" because somehow "beautiful" became reserved for artificially-enhanced fashion models. Pity.

Any rate, Jane, I'm glad to hear this news. It must have been difficult!

"Cute" is pretty mild, but that makes it a useful term in a work setting.
