msmemory_archiveI usually ignore these, but this one caught me up.
1. Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it?
I guess my first best friend was Lisa Testa, who lived just around the corner from me, right on Charcoal Pond. I remember sleeping over for the first time with her, harassing her sisters, staying up too late playing Hearts, and Knuckles, and War, and watching Love American Style.
2. Are you still in touch with this person?
No, I have no idea where her family moved to when they sold the house. And my mother doesn't live in that neighborhood any more, either.
3. Do you have a current close friend?
Two of them (I'm very lucky): Kathryn and Elizabeth (Catrin and Yelizaveta). Please, nobody ask me to decide which is my "best friend."
4. How did you become friends with this person?
Kathryn and I met over her sister's dead gerbil. Sue and I had been pet-sitting Barb's gerbils, and one of them died in our custody. Kathryn came along with Barb to collect the gerbils and ex-gerbil. The following week, Sue and I persuaded Kathryn and Barb to come to an SCA event, partly by way of trying to cheer Barb up.
Eliz met my husband first, at either an alt.callahans or rec.arts.comics party, Callahans I think.
5. Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why?
I wish I were still in touch with Charlene, my best friend from Jr. High and High School. We were great friends, both at school and at summer camp. I'd like to show her that I got cooler as I got older, less nerdly, but still smart :) I admire a lot of her traits, and would like to get back in touch and see if we could still do things together like we used to. (Well, maybe not like we used to -- maybe with me in less of a following role.)
It's mostly my fault that we are out of touch. I do have her address. But when I went to her wedding in the fall of '86, I was stupid and confused and in the midst of figuring out what was going to happen with my relationship with![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
jducoeur, and part way through the reception, I left. I was wrong to do that, and have not yet gotten my act together to ask if she can forgive me (for all I know, she's forgotten all about it, but it still bothers my conscience)

Date: 2003-07-11 11:34 am (UTC)Correct. She held the first alt.callahans party in the Boston area at her apartment (which I attended). Then we held the first rec.arts.comics party in the area (which she and Alex attended). And they joined the SCA not long after.
Y'know, I'm not sure I ever heard that story about Charlene's wedding before. Sorry about that...
