Six years ago my employer was being acquired by its primary competitor, and I left to seek my fortune with a small dot-com startup called Fact City, whose business model involved answering factual questions posed to Internet query engines (e.g. Garciaparra average? "Nomar Garciaparra's batting average is .327.") Unfortunately, once we had exhausted sports statistics and basic almanac stuff, we foundered.

Six years before that, I was working as a corporate librarian and security officer for this R&D firm in Woburn. I received the Order of the Pelican for my work as a local and kingdom officer of the SCA. The SCA's Board of Directors was doing some ill-considered things, which I spent too much time reading/talking/worrying about.

Six years earlier I had been married for a year and was enjoying our little river-view apartment. That fall, we found a house we wanted to buy, and I was laid off, in the same week.

Six years earlier, I was in college and not paying nearly as much attention to my work as I should have. (I was generally content with the "gentleman's B" effect.) I had finally broken up with / been broken up with by my high school boyfriend the previous summer, which was awkward because my summer job was at the same company where his mother worked.

Six years before that, I was in high school, and preparing to spend three weeks in France with a host family in Normandy.

Six years earlier, I was in elementary school.
And six years before that, I wasn't yet attending school.
And six years before that, I wasn't alive.
