Not a whine

Too many of my posts are whines. This one isn't.

[livejournal.com profile] jducoeur gave me an iPod for my birthday last summer. Over the last few weeks, it's been getting flakier and flakier, to the point where I had to hit the Reset function after every few songs (a nuisance when I'm just sitting around, a royal pain when I'm driving).

After working my way through the entire help section of Apple's online manual, upgrading iPod software and iTunes software, resetting, and even Restoring, culminating in getting an error message from Restore (!!), I took the thing back to the Apple store earlier this week. The Genius on duty listened to my explanation, hit Reset and listened to it, and proclaimed my hard drive D-E-D Dead. Off he trotted to the back room, and came back with a nice glossy brand-new iPod, and said, "Here you go. Covered under warranty. Let me just print out this receipt and get your signature."

Off I trotted, perfectly delighted with Apple's customer support. By bedtime that evening, I had it fully charged and reloaded with my songs, podcasts (NHPR's Front Porch with Doyle & McDonald), and playlists.

Every time I've had to have Apple service a computer of mine (and that's very few, given how many I have and how long I've had them), I've had impeccable service, like you received. No questions, no arguments, just terrific service done immediately. AppleCare is the only computer care agreement worth paying for, according to any number of experts. And I agree. So much covered 100% for so long, and no arguments at any time.

Ain't it wonderful?!

(And I still lust after your video iPod, I'll have you know. I could be watching Torchwood in bed. Ahhhhhh. Wait, that came out wrong....)
