I just got back from the orthopedist, and he examined me (and did another set of x-rays for confirmation). Dr. Quinn says it's a pretty clean break -- he pointed out the fracture lines along the head of the humerus where it fits into the socket. I don't need surgery, a cast, or a pin; I just need to keep it strapped up most of the day and not lift heavy things. I'm free to go back to work, and will be in tomorrow. Dr. Quinn will see me again in three weeks, though he expects it to take 6-8 weeks before I am free of the velcro bandage, and another 6-8 before I have full range of motion.

So I will resume working, though my typing speed will be slower and I can't use that arm for lifting for a while. I shouldn't drive any distances til I'm out of the bandages - so if I need to be in Wilder I'll need to coordinate with someone else to carpool.

That's pretty good news. Here's to fast healing...

What a horrible Colorado souvenir. :( At least you don't need surgery, thank goodness!

Oof.

Well, at least you have Dr. Quinn, Medicine Man to help you out. ;)

I couldn't resist. In all seriousness, that sounds like pretty good news. Surgery would be no fun, I suspect.

Oh, good. I'm happy someone else went there, too.

Well, it could be worse.

There won't be any bad interaction with the other treatments you're getting, I presume (no slow healing or anything of that nature).

My grandmother always said that everyone was assigned the same amount of bad luck when they were born - just some people use their allotment up in big chunks, all at once, while others are doomed to a life of small daily doses.

Slow healing is still a concern, though I seem to have made perceptible progress just in the last five days. The risk of infection, if I had needed surgery while operating with a depressed immune system, was more of an issue, so I am delighted I don't have to deal with that.

I am cross that I have to take a hiatus from my Muscular Therapy sessions (massage) however.

I'm glad to hear that you're bouncing back from this one so easily. Work can be tedius, but not as bad as sitting around all day thinking you *could* be at work.

As someone with shoulder problems, my "ouch" is heartfelt and deeply sympathetic. I'm glad surgery appears to be unnecessary, and add my voice to the chorus of well-wishers.

May that be the last bad thing to happen for the next few years. (Fifty is a few, right?)

Take it easy and I hope things heal fast.
