A low-key birthday weekend
Friday - Covering for G on the reception desk. Spent a lot of time finding out who was going to be in the office on Monday (12 out of 40). Out to dinner at Papa Razzi (competent risotto with chicken, and a mediocre Valpolicella).
Saturday - Spent time looking for my Daystars meeting notes, unsuccessfully, not for the first time either. I know they're on a yellow legal pad, and I can visualize them in my mind's eye but not read them thus. Went to Costco for my birthday present, none in stock so got it at the Apple store instead. Pretty iPod :) Shiny black with silver trim, not that you can see that through the bright red jacket. Ripped a handful of CDs to get started. New toy!!
I'm a little sorry we didn't trek out to Glenn Linn for the Pelican elevation, but I have no fond memories of that event/site, so no motivation.
Sunday - Actual birthday. Still no luck finding Daystars notes. Went out to Nashoba Winery for some of their new mead and reisling and several other things. Picked up yet another small load of random stuff from storage. I think we ought to just clear out the big storage unit at the risk of making a holy mess of our family room, and cancel that expensive payment. Very strange not to get a present or phone call from Mother: I am coming to understand why holidays are weird right after a death. Dinner at Gargoyles on the Square, as recommended by

goldsquare and nudgeprincess. I had the tuna tartare appetizer and the duck confit, which were both terrific. We'll be back.Monday - Moomba party in the afternoon, featuring hot tub. Conversations are just a little weird when everyone present has read everyone else's LJ and several other common friends' journals as well. Then baronial council (count them: 18 people!).
jdulac can't find Daystars notes either. Council was so brief we had time to go to a movie afterward: The Devil Wears Prada. Streep was fabulous as ever, and Anne Hathaway is just beautiful.Tuesday - actual Independence Day. Did some LibraryThing data entry while watching the World Cup - oh I am a librarian through and through: I do cataloging for recreation!! Also a little yard work til it started to rain, but at least I proved the extension cords will let me get the string trimmer down to the untended "back 40." Went to
elizabear and dsr's annual party, where we saw most of the usual suspects. Dorothy asked me if I'll be a reference for her and Jim on their application for local senior housing. From there we headed downtown to the Pops and fireworks concert. This year, instead of staking out a sitting spot, we decided to walk all the way around the loop, down Mem Drive on the Cambridge side, across the Salt-and-Pepper bridge, back up Storrow to the Mass Ave bridge where we had a splendid vantage point for the fireworks. At home, found email from E, who took her usual obsessively detailed notes at the Daystars meeting and has bailed me out [grovel]! I hadn't realized how stressy I was about screwing up on that poll, til this morning when I know I can rip through that puppy this afternoon, whew!
