Ribbon

Where do I go to buy ordinary grosgrain ribbon? I need 1" or 1 1/4" black ribbon, grosgrain or possibly velvet. I bought a dress on deep discount, $59 marked down from $179, and part of the reason it was marked down is that it has lost its belt, and even a narrow leather belt would be all wrong. Does JoAnn's even carry such a thing, or should I mail order? Mail order would be easier for me than Windsor Button, unless someone wants to do the legwork for me.

(Dress looks pretty much like this, but with a wine-colored underdress.) http://www.buzzillions.com/dz_55523_adrianna_papell_boutique_strapless_black_reviews
No, I have no idea where/when I'm going to wear it, now that Arisia is past.

If you still lived in Waltham, I'd suggest the Ben Franklin store in Belmont.

I have a large spool of 7/8" black grosgrain ribbon. If that width works, you're welcome to as much as you need.

Until I read the last sentence of your post, my answer would have been Windsor Button.

Further afield (but possibly more convenient for you since they have parking right outside their door) would be Martin's House of Cloth, in Manchester, NH.

I'd think this is something that a place like JoAnn's should carry, but I don't know that they do.

I work about two blocks from WB. I can pop in there and if they have it, how much do you need?

Well, you'll just have to throw a party :P

Well, if you have a friend in the city (ha ha), the ribbon shop on 38th(?) has the best grosgrain ribbon I've ever found. Regular sewing shops just can't compare.

The craft stores (Michaels, A.C.Moore) carry some ribbon, too.

I know you've already found your answer, but there's also Ryco in RI, for future reference. [livejournal.com profile] auntie_elspeth can definitely give you directions to it. It's got a butt ton of ribbon in large quantities.

I didn't read any of the zillion comments. I have black rayon velvet. How much do you need, I'll send it down from BIA next weekend
