Charity fun
Sep. 7th, 2009 04:22 pmI had a suprisingly pleasant middle of the day, working on the MDA Telethon ("Jerry's Kids"). Apart from a difficult start - there was no one at the volunteer check-in desk for 20 minutes after I arrived; then I found out OES folks were supposed to check in with Mickee not at the general desk - everything went quite nicely. We were able to drop in and out of phone coverage as we liked for about two hours, then we made sure all the phones were manned by OES during the slot when Joan and Art presented the Mass OES check for over $8K. There were refreshments, and when the phones weren't ringing, plenty of chance to watch the TV studio folks at work.
The people-watching was superb, and included immaculately uniformed firefighters from several towns, a large squad from the Norfolk County Sherriff's Dept., Miss Massachusetts, and another large group, in colors, from the Harley Owners' Group Of Boston (the juxtaposition of the HOGs and Miss Mass. was especially amusing).
