Not bad for improv
Dec. 21st, 2008 08:14 pmThere was a packet of chicken breast and about a pound of broccoli crowns. What shall we make for dinner?
Sauce Mournay (roux, turkey stock, milk to make gravy, with cheddar and parmesan melted in)
2 cloves of garlic, smashed
1 cup uncooked rice
3 slices of sopresatta, minced
chicken
broccoli
Saute the smashed garlic in turkey shmaltz. Thicken with flour, add milk and a little stock to make gravy. Add 1 cup of shredded cheddar, a good dollop of grated parmesan, and some pepper, and a little water to thin.
Steam the thickest bits of the broccoli until barely tender.
Mix all ingredients, bake in casserole for about 45 minutes.
Outcome: quite edible casserole, with leftovers for lunch tomorrow. To fix: some of the rice was a little underdone, so use a bit more liquid next time.
