Apr. 12th, 2006 05:35 pmWhen I called Mother on Monday, one of her observations was that they turn the beds at St. V's very quickly. She said that when her roommates (she was then on her third) were sent home, the staff would come in, sanitize the bed and that half of the room, and change the linens, pronto. Mother would hope for a quiet evening with the room to herself, but each time, a new patient would be brought in within hours.
I just phoned her at the direct line in the hospital, only to be greeted by another old lady, telling me I had the wrong number. I tracked Mother down at the rehab building in her complex -- she was still in the admitting interview with the director. Which means she had probably left St Vincent's all of 2 hours earlier, or less (it's less than 10 miles away).
So the good news is she's out of the hospital, and recuperating. The bad news is she has to recuperate in the nursing home instead of on her own couch. Hopefully the pacemaker will do her stamina some good and she'll be back in her own apartment, with her own books and things, soon.
