The system works
Sep. 16th, 2005 04:30 pmI got a call this morning from the staff nurse at my mother's building. She wanted to keep me up-to-date that Mother had been in a car wreck last night, and was banged up but otherwise OK. She had checked on Mom last night and again before breakfast, and knew that Mom didn't intend to call me - or her primary care physician. So Debbie (nurse) called both of us - me with an update on Mom's condition, and Dr. S to ask if he thought he should see her (yes).
Mom has a scrape on her arm, probably from the airbag deploying, and a large bruise on her inner thigh, probably from impacting the steering column, and nothing more. Naturally, she claims that the precautionary tetanus shot they gave her hurts more than any of the actual injuries. No word yet on the car, but she has rental coverage & will pick up a car from the agency next week.
Debbie's caring service, and the building's full-time driver who took her to the doctor, are part of why Mom pays so much for Assisted Living & finds it so worth it.
