How long does skunk scent persist outdoors? Since I can still smell skunk and it's been a week (including a rainstorm) should I conclude there's a critter corpse out there I need to track down and bag up for the trash collectors?

Dead skunk smell = two weeks.
Live skunk smell = coupl'a days.

It's a particular odor that is slightly different from that of a live skunk. Don't ask me why I know.

If dead skunk is approximately equivalent to live skunk plus smell of dead squirrel, I think there's a dead skunk somewhere on our property or the neighbors' to the west.
