Bad hair day

The trouble with shorter hair is the increased potential for bad hair days. When it's really really long, I just brush it out, its weight holds it down, and if it's unruly I stick it in a ponytail. At shoulder length, it exhibits its full capability to curl in funky directions and look like it was cut with kitchen shears. I really should have washed it and put a little gel or something in, this morning.

How do you feel about hair-bands? I find the simple plastic sort with tiny toothy bits to work very well for hair control, and the teethy bits let me arrange it with a little bit of volume over the temples.

All of the above, and I'm a fan of putting just the hair that would fall into my face (when I had said hair) into back in a barette. That might look really great on you with your curls.

My hair's just a little over shoulder-length at this point, but when it was the same length as yours, I found that washing it in the evening and then sleeping on it when it was barely dry did wonders for making it nice and flat.

And there's still the ponytail option, although it'll be a poofy ponytail.
