So when will the first truck get stuck on Storrow Drive? I'd guess probably tomorrow, but it might be as late as Wednesday (the 1st of the month).

I guess I'm clueless. Why would a truck get stuck on Storrow Drive?

The lemmings college students come to Boston soon - and the U-Haul trucks don't fit under many bridges on Storrow Drive.

Aha! Didn't use a U-haul in college, so there's my blindness. Thanks.

I can report no stuck trucks around noontime today when I came back from a meeting in Camb.

It's a wonder that this happens, given the abundance of warning signs and flashing yellow lights and whatnot. But there's always someone who figures that the roof of the underpass will magically rise's me.

The absurd limit of this is the Pawtucket Bridge on I-95 in RI. The signs that give the tonnage limit and the "2 axles per unit" warning and the "EXIT NOW" instruction start in Connecticut. Oh, and the "$3000 FINE!" warning -- the decimal point is not missing. But there's almost always a semi pulled over with a police car behind it.

Isn't that how you keep your taxes lower? The idiot fines? (Seems very efficient to ME.)

It still won't beat the brand-new, $500K fire truck that Boston Fire Station 1 drove into the bridge on Storrow Drive. They had to let the air out of the tires to pull it out. I think it was something like $50K of damage to the new truck.

My favourite is the truckers who are convinced that THEY can make it under the overpass. *grin* We get it here on Decarie, between St Jacques and DeMaisonneuve. There's this train overpass, you see. *grin* I can't count the number of times they've hit it.

Presumably sometime during new student arrivals-- returning students probably actually *know* where they are and aren't supposed to drive.

A friend of mine posted on facebook that we saw a truck with its entire top ripped off, and wished he had a camera.

The longer I live here, the more I wonder - regardless of height limits! - why anyone is trying to drive a rental truck down Storrow Drive anyway.

They got on it by accident when they wanted 93
